The Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme is a joint initiative between the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission and UK universities. It supports talented students from developing Commonwealth countries to pursue Master’s or PhD programs in the UK, focusing on those who demonstrate financial need.

Who Can Apply?

  • Commonwealth citizens, refugees, or British Protected Persons

  • Residents of eligible Commonwealth countries

  • Applicants with strong academic records who cannot afford UK study without support

What Is Covered?

  • Full tuition fees

  • Living allowance/stipend

  • Travel costs to and from the UK

  • Additional allowances related to study (e.g., research or thesis costs)

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Commonwealth citizen, refugee, or British Protected Person

  • Permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country

  • Available to start studies in the UK by September/October 2026

  • Academic requirements:

    • First degree: First Class or Upper Second Class (2:1), or

    • Lower Second Class (2:2) plus a relevant postgraduate qualification

    • For a second UK Master’s, provide justification for the study

  • Must not have studied or worked for ≥1 year in a high-income country

  • Demonstrated financial need

  • Must have applied for admission to UCL for an eligible program

  • Admission application to UCL

  • Academic transcripts

  • Proof of residence and citizenship

  • Financial need documentation
