The Gates Cambridge Scholarship is one of the world’s most prestigious postgraduate awards, supporting outstanding applicants from outside the UK to study any subject at the University of Cambridge. Each year, about 80 full-cost scholarships are awarded to exceptional students committed to academic excellence, leadership, and improving lives globally.

Who Can Apply?

• Citizens of any country outside the UK.
• Applicants seeking to study a full-time PhD, MLitt, or one-year postgraduate course at Cambridge (with a few exceptions).
• Current Cambridge students applying for a new postgraduate course.

What is Covered?

• Full University tuition fees.
• Annual maintenance allowance (£21,000 for 12 months; up to 4 years for PhD).
• One economy airfare at the beginning and end of the course.
• Visa costs and health surcharge.
• Discretionary funding for conferences, research, children allowance (up to £16,548), maternity/paternity support, and hardship funding.

Eligibility Criteria

• Outstanding academic excellence (minimum of strong GPA, excellent references, strong research potential).
• Clear reason for course choice and fit with Cambridge.
• Demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of others.
• Proven capacity for leadership.

How to Apply?

1. Apply for admission to a graduate course at Cambridge via the University’s Graduate Application Portal.
2. Complete the Gates Cambridge section of the funding application.
3. Submit all required documents (transcripts, references, research samples, personal statement, etc.).
4. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to interview.
