The University of Kansas (KU) offers graduate programs in Anthropology (MA & PhD) with tracks in archaeology, biological anthropology, and sociocultural anthropology. Who Can Apply?

  • Domestic and international students with a strong background in Anthropology or related fields.

  • Applicants may apply for either the MA only or the PhD track (students entering with a BA can apply directly to the PhD).

What is Covered?
PhD students: 4 years of guaranteed funding (Graduate Teaching Assistantships, Graduate Research Assistantships, or fellowships).
MA students: Up to 2 years of funding may be available.
Opportunities for University awards and teaching assistantships.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (depending on entry level).

  • Submit a personal statement outlining academic goals, disciplinary track, and intended research agenda.

  • Provide resume/CV, writing sample, transcripts, and three recommendation letters.

  • Non-native English speakers must provide official proof of English proficiency (TOEFL/IELTS).

  • Applicants must identify two KU Anthropology faculty members who could serve as primary and secondary advisors (outreach encouraged prior to applying).

  • GRE is not required (optional if applicant wants scores considered).
