The University of Amsterdam is inviting proposals for a four-year, fully funded PhD position exploring private law remedies within data and digital law. The project examines how existing and future legal frameworks can offer effective remedies for data protection breaches, especially in the context of structural online harms.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants with a Master's degree in Law who are interested in private law, digital law, data protection, comparative law, or interdisciplinary legal research.
What Is Covered?
• Full-time employment contract for 4 years
• Monthly salary between €3,059 and €3,881
• 8% holiday allowance
• 8.3% year-end allowance
• Funding for comparative research abroad
• Funding for conferences and workshops
• Full academic supervision and doctoral training
• Membership in the Amsterdam Centre for Transformative Private Law (ACT)
Eligibility Criteria
• Master’s degree in Law
• Strong interest in private law, remedies, digital law, and/or data protection
• Experience in academic research and writing
• Interest in comparative or interdisciplinary research
• Excellent written and spoken English (Dutch is an advantage)
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Willingness to participate in academic events, teaching, and outreach activities
