Graduate Teaching Assistantships in Educational Psychology at the University of Kansas

The Department of Educational Psychology (EPSY) at the University of Kansas offers Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs) to both new applicants and current students. These positions provide financial support and teaching experience, making them a valuable opportunity for graduate students in education-related fields. While most awards go to doctoral students, all applicants are encouraged to apply.

Who Can Apply?

  • Current or incoming students in Educational Psychology graduate programs (Ph.D. applicants preferred, but master’s students also eligible).

  • Students with strong academic backgrounds and interest in teaching.

  • Both admitted and pending applicants (you can apply even before an admission decision).

What is Covered?

  • Most appointments are .50 FTE (20 hours per week) for the academic year.

  • Some positions may be .25 FTE (10 hours per week) or one-semester-only roles.

  • GTA appointments typically include:

    • Tuition coverage (full or partial).

    • Monthly stipend.

    • Teaching experience through assigned courses.

Key Expectations:

  • Attend About Teaching: New GTA Conference (for new GTAs).

  • Attend EPSY Department GTA Orientation.

  • Hold at least 3 office hours per week.

  • Attend assigned classes/lectures and fulfill instructional duties.

  • Maintain updated plan of study (doctoral students).
