Who Can Apply?

  • Students pursuing a Master of Arts (M.A.) or Ph.D. in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology.

  • Applicants passionate about field and laboratory research, professional scientific development, and interdisciplinary study.

What is Covered?

  • Ph.D. students: Up to 10 semesters of funding.

  • M.A. students: Up to 4 semesters of funding.

  • Funding package includes:

    • Stipend (semester-based).

    • Full tuition sponsorship.

    • Subsidized student health insurance.

    • Conference travel funding to present research.

    • Research grants through departmental endowment funds.

Types of Funding:

  • Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs): Teaching undergraduate courses.

  • Graduate Research Assistantships (GRAs): Conducting funded research.

  • Curatorial Assistantships (CAs): Supporting KU’s world-class natural history collections.

  • Fellowships: University or departmental merit-based awards.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Admission into the M.A. or Ph.D. in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology.

  • Strong academic background and demonstrated research potential.

  • Commitment to scholarly development (publishing, conferences, grant-writing).

  • Non-native English speakers must pass a spoken English test to hold GTA positions.

  • Successful completion of a background check (required for KU employment).
