The KU School of Architecture & Design offers a range of merit-based scholarships, fellowships, and assistantships to support graduate students pursuing Master of Architecture (M.Arch), Master of Arts in Design, and Ph.D. programs. These awards recognize exceptional academic performance, design talent, and research potential.

Who Can Apply?

  • Outstanding KU seniors entering their first year of a KU master’s or doctoral program (Self Memorial Scholarship).

  • Incoming Master of Architecture Track II or III students.

  • Incoming Master of Arts in Design students.

  • Ph.D. students in Architecture & Design.

What is Covered?

  • Self Memorial Scholarship: Merit-based award for KU seniors transitioning to graduate studies.

  • Graduate Scholarships (Architecture & Design): Limited, competitive scholarships for M.Arch Track II and M.A. in Design students.

  • Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs): Provide a stipend + tuition reduction; available to M.Arch II & III students, and some Ph.D. students.

  • Fellowships for Ph.D. Students: Eligible candidates may be nominated for university-wide fellowships, including:

    • University Graduate Fellowship

    • Chancellor's Fellowship

    • Bernadette Gray-Little Fellowship

  • In-State Tuition Benefit: Missouri residents enrolling in M.Arch Track II or III qualify for in-state tuition.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Strong academic record and portfolio (for Architecture & Design programs).

  • Admission into M.Arch, M.A. in Design, or Ph.D. program.

  • Fellowship eligibility determined by nomination and academic merit.

How to Apply?

  1. Submit a graduate application to KU’s Architecture & Design program.

  2. Students are automatically considered for scholarships/fellowships upon admission.

  3. For GTA opportunities, indicate interest and qualifications in your application.
