The Hornby Trust Scholarship provides fully funded opportunities for outstanding TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) educators from low- and middle-income countries to pursue a Master’s degree at the University of Exeter. Up to 10 scholarships are available for the MEd TESOL programme starting September 2026.
Who Can Apply?

TESOL professionals with at least 3 years of full-time teaching or related experience after their first degree

Residents of low- or middle-income countries (OECD DAC list)

Applicants who already hold an undergraduate degree (UK 2:1 or equivalent) or a relevant postgraduate degree
What Is Covered?

Full tuition fees for the MEd TESOL programme

Likely additional support for living expenses (as per “fully funded” status)
Eligibility Criteria:

Minimum three years of TESOL teaching or related professional experience

Undergraduate degree with grades equivalent to UK upper second-class honours or higher, or relevant postgraduate degree

Resident and working in a low- or middle-income country
How to Apply:

Submit a standard application to the University of Exeter for the MEd TESOL programme.

Receive your Exeter student number.

Submit the Hornby Scholarship application using your Exeter student number.
