Fully Funded Daad In-country/in-region Scholarships 2026

The DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarships aim to strengthen higher education systems in Sub-Saharan Africa by supporting outstanding students pursuing Master’s or PhD degrees. This fully funded program empowers African scholars to study either within their home country or at another African university, promoting regional collaboration, academic excellence, and sustainable development.


Who Can Apply?

  • Citizens or permanent residents of Sub-Saharan African countries.
  • Graduates with a first degree (for Master’s) or a Master’s degree (for PhD).
  • Students interested in studying at African universities (In-Country or In-Region).
  • Female candidates and those from underrepresented regions or groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

What is Covered?

  • Full or partial tuition fee coverage
  • Monthly stipend for living expenses
  • Research and travel allowances
  • Health insurance
  • Academic and professional development support

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be a Sub-Saharan African national.
  • Must hold the required academic qualifications for the chosen program.
  • Must show a strong academic record and motivation for development-related research.
  • Applicants for In-Country scholarships must study in their home country;
    those for In-Region scholarships may study in another African country.
  • Students from South Africa should note that applications are administered by NRF (National Research Foundation).

How to Apply:

  1. Visit the official DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarship website.
  2. Select your target university and program.
  3. Prepare your application documents (CV, academic transcripts, degree certificates, motivation letter, recommendation letters, and proof of nationality).
  4. Submit your complete application online via the DAAD portal before the stated deadline.
