Fully Funded Daad Graduate School Scholarship Programme at University of Leipzig

The Graduate School Global and Area Studies (GSGAS) at Leipzig University is offering two fully funded PhD scholarships under the DAAD Graduate School Scholarship Programme (GSSP). The scholarships support outstanding international students interested in exploring pressing global issues such as migration, climate change, crises, pandemics, revolutions, decolonization, and globalization dynamics.


 Who Can Apply?

  • International students (non-German nationals)
  • Aspiring PhD candidates with strong interest in global, transregional, or transnational studies

What is Covered?

  • Monthly stipend for living expenses
  • Full tuition coverage
  • Health insurance
  • Travel allowance
  • Additional support for research, conferences, and family (where applicable)

 Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be an international applicant who has not lived in Germany for more than 15 months at the time of application
  • Hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) completed within the last six years
  • Strong academic interest in global and area studies (themes include crises, revolutions, pandemics, migration, climate change, decolonization, globalization)
  • Most recent final exam (Master’s) must not be older than six years

 How to Apply?

  1. Prepare application documents: CV, research proposal, academic transcripts, certificates, motivation letter, and two academic references.
  2. Submit application directly to the Graduate School Global and Area Studies (GSGAS), Leipzig University.
  3. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an interview or presentation of their research proposal.
  4. Final selection will be confirmed in collaboration with DAAD.
