The Art Academy – Department of Contemporary Art at the University of Bergen is offering a fully funded 4-year PhD position in Artistic Research connected to the MishMash Centre for AI and Creativity. The research focuses on the intersection of AI and artistic processes, exploring innovative, co-creative AI systems and their impact on contemporary artistic practice.
Who Can Apply?
Artists with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in contemporary art, media arts, fine arts, sound art, or related disciplines, with experience in high-level artistic practice and the application of AI in the arts.
What Is Covered?

Full-time employment for 4 years with a salary according to Norwegian PhD standards

Three years dedicated to research and doctoral training, one year to teaching and career development activities

Access to the MishMash Centre network and resources

Participation in National Research School in Artistic Research

Optional Norwegian language training if required
Eligibility Criteria

Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in contemporary art or equivalent (minimum 5 years of higher education)

Experience in artistic practice and production at a high professional level

Experience or interest in AI in the arts

Strong collaboration and independent work skills

Excellent written and spoken English

Personal and interpersonal qualities, including ambition and research potential
