The M.S.E. in Higher Education Administration at KU is a 36-credit, two-year program designed for students pursuing careers in higher education leadership and student affairs. The program blends coursework with practical assistantship or professional experience, equipping graduates with the skills, knowledge, and values needed for equity-driven leadership in universities and colleges.

Who Can Apply?

  • Graduates interested in student affairs, university administration, or higher education leadership.
  • Both U.S. and international students.
  • Full-time applicants must hold a Graduate Assistantship (GA); part-time applicants must be full-time higher education professionals.

What is Covered?

  • Graduate Assistantships (GA):
    • Tuition waiver (up to 9 credits per semester).
    • Stipend.
    • Health insurance benefits (for 50%+ appointments).
  • Additional departmental scholarships may also be available.
  • KU employees (part-time option) can use employee tuition benefits.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Strong academic background and interest in higher education leadership.
  • For full-time students: must secure and maintain a Graduate Assistantship (exceptions for external sponsors like Fulbright).
  • For part-time students: must be employed full-time at a college or university.

  2. Provide transcripts, CV/resume, statement of purpose, and recommendation letters.
