The Clarendon Scholarship is one of the largest and most prestigious graduate scholarship schemes at the University of Oxford. Each year, about 140 scholarships are awarded to exceptional international students pursuing Master’s or PhD degrees across all subject areas. The award covers full tuition fees and generous living expenses, making it one of the most competitive and sought-after opportunities in the UK.

Who Can Apply?

  • Applicants from all countries worldwide.
  • Students applying for a new Master’s or DPhil (PhD) program at Oxford.
  • Current Oxford Master’s students re-applying for a DPhil.

Not eligible: Applicants for Postgraduate Certificates/Diplomas, deferred entry offers, or continuing students in the same degree.

What is Covered?

  • Full tuition and college fees.
  • Generous living grant:
    • At least £15,009 per year for full-time students (2025–26 rate).
    • Part-time DPhil: at least £2,502/year.
    • Part-time Master’s: at least £5,003/year.
  • Funding duration matches the length of the course (normally 1–4 years).

Eligibility Criteria

  • Strong academic record (high GPA, outstanding references).
  • Clear aptitude for chosen course of study.
  • Demonstrated motivation and potential for future impact.
  • Proficiency in English (as per Oxford requirements).

How to Apply?

  1. Apply for a graduate course at Oxford by the January 2026 admissions deadline (varies by program).
  2. No separate scholarship application is needed – eligible candidates are automatically considered.
  3. Academic departments nominate top applicants, which are then reviewed by Oxford’s divisions.
  4. Shortlisted candidates are contacted directly by the Clarendon Fund team.
