The Tarbell Fellowship 2026 is a fully funded 9-month program for early-career journalists from around the world. Fellows will work in top newsrooms, including Bloomberg, The Guardian, MIT Technology Review, Time Magazine, and others, while participating in a 10-week course on AI and journalism fundamentals. The program also includes a one-week Summit in the San Francisco Bay Area, providing hands-on experience and networking opportunities.

Who Can Apply?

  • Early-career journalists from any country

  • Individuals passionate about journalism and AI

  • Applicants with prior newsroom experience (including student newspapers) are preferred but not required

What Is Covered?

  • Fellowship salary: $60,000–$80,000 for early-career researchers; $90,000–$110,000 for senior fellows

  • Travel costs, including airfare

  • Accommodation

  • Visa sponsorship

  • Participation in a 10-week AI and journalism course and one-week Summit in San Francisco

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills
