The Reagan Fascell Democracy Fellowship 2026 is a fully funded five-month international fellowship at the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) in Washington, D.C. It offers mid-career professionals, democracy activists, journalists, civil society leaders, and scholars the opportunity to conduct independent research on democracy-related projects while gaining hands-on experience in democratic development.

Who Can Apply?

  • Mid-career professionals and practitioners in democracy, human rights, civil society, and journalism

  • Scholars with doctoral degrees, publications, and research expertise in democratic development

What Is Covered?

  • Monthly stipend

  • Accommodation in a furnished apartment

  • Meals and living expenses

  • Round-trip airfare to Washington, D.C.

  • Limited reimbursement for professional trips and phone calls

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Proficient in English

  • Project proposal focused on political, social, economic, legal, or cultural aspects of democratic development

  • Available for the 5-month fellowship period (either Oct 1–Feb 28 or Mar 1–Jul 31)

  • Practitioner track: mid-career professionals with practical experience promoting democracy or human rights

  • Scholar track: doctoral degree holders with publications and a defined research project
