The WA Cooke, Jane Cooke, and Alfred Godfrey Scholarship supports outstanding postgraduate research students at the University of Sydney Law School with a generous stipend of up to $50,000 per year for up to 3.5 years. Funded by three generous bequests, this award empowers law scholars to pursue groundbreaking research in their field.
Who Can Apply?
Full-time postgraduate research students (PhD, Master of Criminology by Research, or Master of Laws by Research) at the University of Sydney Law School.
What is Covered?

Primary stipend of up to $50,000/year for 1.75–3 years (depending on the program)

Supplementary stipend to match total value up to $50,000/year

Possible one-off payment (amount stated in offer letter)

Up to 6-month extension for PhD recipients
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:

Have an unconditional offer to study full-time in PhD, MCrim (Research), or LLM (Research) at the Sydney Law School

Be willing to conduct research in law

Hold an Honours or Master’s degree in Law, or an equivalent qualification with strong academic and/or professional research achievements

Preference given to commencing candidates (exceptional continuing students may be considered)
